First, let me just say that I myself quit smoking cigarettes nearly two years ago after smoking a pack a day for many years.  This entire article is about what I experienced during the quitting process and what I would possibly do differently had I chance to do it all over again.

Anyone who tells you that quitting smoking is easy, is lying because it isn't.  Almost immediately after quitting you will most likely begin to have those "less than desirable" stop smoking cravings that so many are familiar with.  These are also the most common cause for people that begin smoking again.  They are a very real problem and something that can be avoided, if I only I knew how back then!

Throughout my journey to a healthier lifestyle, I discovered a number of things that really made the smoking cravings go away.  Now, fast forward two years and I can sit and discuss smoking without so much as a hint of desire to light-up.  I have finally found freedom from this habit and I hope these following three tips will help you avoid the same troubles I had.  Let me share.

3 Tips to Help Stop Smoking Cravings

Tip #1:You may not realize just how many different habits are involved in smoking, I sure didn't.  When you first quit you may find yourself reaching for a shirt pocket or some other "cigarette place".  For me, it was the shirt pocket, that is where I had always kept them and for a year I habitually grabbed for my shirt pocket.  That is until I decided to stop wearing shirts with breast pockets.  All of the sudden I quit reaching, because my brain new that there was no pocket to grab for.  A simple change of wardrobe can rid you of one major craving.

Tip #2: Try to keep your mouth busy, especially if you are around other smokers.  I mean lets face it, many of you may work or live with other smokers and being around while you are quitting can be really tough.  As another habit, many times we may find that our mouths need that cigarette hanging out of them.  They really don't, but your mouth may think it does.  Chewing on gum, mints or lifesavers, even sucking on a toothpick can alleviate this craving long before it ever gets out of hand.

Tip #3: Your hands are the key to the third horrible habit.  That's right, when we smoke we are holding those cigarettes with our hands.  You have to either replace or remove the habit all together.  I actually found that typing kept my hands busy and took my mind off of having a cigarette between my fingers.  So, I started working more and spending time online.  Of course, you could also hold a pen, have a thumb war with yourself or anything else you can think of to make your hands feel at ease.

Hopefully, these tips that I have shared will help you to stop smoking cravings before they ever begin.  Quitting smoking is very possible for anyone and you can do it too.  You have to maintain a higher level of determination and believe in the strength of your mind and body.
